FAQs

  • There is no absolute with this and we do recommend you adjusting your dose where necessary. The dose can vary depending on your needs, taste and even where you are in your cycle.

Start with 1 oz of Cacao for day to day use.

If you are creating a ceremony at home you can use up to 2 oz. It is totally fine to build up to more if you want but start small.

And if you are pregnant, breastfeeding, have a heart condition or are on anti- depressant medication please do not drink more than 1 ounce.

  • The difference between regular Cacao and Ceremonial Cacao lies in the way it is processed.

    Ceremonial Cacao

    • Grown in the land of her origin - Mexico, Central America and parts of South America

    • Processed by HAND by indigenous populations with a spiritual connection to the land and plant

    • Processed with the intention of Cacao being used for sacred purposes

Cacao (sometimes referred to as Pure Cacao or Organic Cacao)

    • Does NOT come from the land of the plant's origin...usually it comes from the Dominican Republic or another Carribbean country colonized by Europeans in the 17th century

    • Sometimes Processed by machine, sometimes by hand but only up to the point of peeling the Cacao beans...the beans are then sold to others to do the grinding and molding

    • Processed for the intention of global "chocolate" and confectionary market

  • This depends if you are on medication or not.

If you are on antidepressant meds or other meds that inhibit or enhance your natural brain chemistry then it is advised NOT to drink Cacao in ceremonial doses (2+ ounces).

The reports are that you can experience migraines or other uncomfortable symptoms.

Still the energy of Mama Cacao can work on you if you sit with Her in ceremony though you are not ingesting Her.

If you are not on medication then Ceremonial Cacao likely will assist you in feeling increased moods and pleasant emotions.

This is because she can raise our serotonin, dopamine and tryptophan levels…as well as providing a number of other nutrients dense properties our bodies love.

  • The western recommendation is to avoid Cacao during the first trimester because Anandamide levels can fluctuate so drastically in these first weeks and it's not yet proven whether an overabundance of Cacao during this period can be potentially harmful or maybe even helpful to development.

*Anandamide "the bliss molecule" studies show a positive contribution to fertility in both men and women.

After the first trimester it's advised to drink 1 ounce or less of Ceremonial Cacao because a 2 ounce dose can significantly increase your blood flow and healthy pregnant women already have increased blood volume of up to 50% so your body does not need this help from Cacao.

  • Yes.

Ceremonial Cacao is not contraindicated to breastfeeding. Still you need to listen to your body to see if she wants Cacao. Aaaand, if you are concerned, have a 1 ounce or smaller dose and observe whether it has an undesired affect on your sweet baby.

Note that it takes up to 8 weeks after birth for your blood volume to reduce to normal levels so be mindful of this.

We and many breastfeeding Mamas we know have had zero issues.

But follow your own intuition and communicate with the Spirit of Mama Cacao yourself beforehand.

  • No.

Ceremonial Cacao is a sacred plant that originated in the depths of Mesoamerican jungles just like other sacred plants which do have hallucinogenic properties but She does not.

Her Magic is in her high vibration energy. Ceremonial Cacao produced the traditional way on sacred land by the hands of indigenous families with a long standing connection to to this plant means She is infused with LOVE and ancestral wisdom.

This magic you feel when you drink Her may arise as visions, memories or sensations in the body. This is energy moving but you will not hallucinate
